The majority of our suffering comes when we are constantly yearning for what we want yet do not possess, that is, the gap between our expectations and reality.

The simplest antidote to the expectations vs. reality discontentment is gratitude.

It is of course not wrong to have expectations, but as long as when we live in a state where we are constantly dissatisfied with where we are and what we have, we will never be able to savor the present moment.
